Rhyming Recipes – Part III
An Ode to Cooking…
Cooking with mom, cooking with dad,
Cooking with grandma can even be rad.
Try out a recipe, give it a go,
Rhyming and magic help cook our dough.
Grab mom grab dad count to two,
Baking and boiling, creating a stew.
Boring snacks and the same old grub?

Learning the alphabet is easy you see
The time is now, now is the time!
To start the cooking and stop with this rhyme!
Astounding Applesauce
Mixing and mashing is always a treat
Grab a spoonful, eat and repeat.
This is a snack that’s delicious and great,
Apples and cinnamon, I can hardly wait!
What you need:
- 2 red apples
- 2 T. Lemon Juice
- 2 tsp. sugar
- Cinnamon to taste
What to do:
- Peel the apples and cut into small pieces, toss the cores
- Put the pieces of apple into a food processor. Add the lemon juice. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a bowl and add the cinnamon and sugar.
Banana Bread
Going bananas, going nuts,
Cooking this recipe will take some guts.
When the bread is done its hard to hold back
You’ll eat it all up, this fantastic snack.
What you need:
- 3-4 ripe bananas, smashed
- 1/3 Cup melted butter
- ¾ Cup sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp. Vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 1 ½ Cups flour
What to do:
- Pre-heat oven to 350°
- Mix the butter into the bananas in a large bowl with a wooden mixing spoon
- Mix in sugar, eggs, and vanilla
- Add in baking soda and salt
- Fold in the flour last
- Pour mixture into a greased 4×8 loaf pan
- Bake for 1 hour
- Let cool for 10 minutes and enjoy!
Coconut Cookies
A coconut is very strange indeed,
Is it a fruit, a veggie, a nut, or a seed?
Nobody knows where this tropical object fits,
We do know, however, this recipe is a hit!
What you need:
- 1 Cup butter
- ½ Cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- ¼ cup wheat germ
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 ½ cup chocolate chips or raisins (or both!)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ¾ cup coconut
- 1 tsp baking soda
What to do:
- Preheat oven to 350° F
- Cream together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar
- And egg and mix together
- Add flour, wheat germ, oats, coconut, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix
- Stir in chocolate chips or raisins
- Roll into teaspoon sized balls and drop onto baking sheet
- Bake 12-15 minutes and enjoy
